I'd like to start off saying that I was a patient of Dr. Shanafelt's and have been for the past 2years, I have recently discovered that Dr. Shanafelt has dismissed me from his practice for 1 no show, I am a diabetic and I was seeing him on an average of between every 3-4 months. He referred me to an endocrinologist that I can't get in to see untill January of 2018 so Dr. Shanafelt agreed to continue to see me up until that time but yet would still continue to see me afterwards for common things ,colds, flu, cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. Normally Dr. Shanafelt's staff would call and text messaged me a reminder of the appointment the day before, which was nice thing since I was scheduling 3-4 months out. On the 18th I guess I had an appointment but was never notified via call reminder nor text and I did forget about it aswell so today 9/26/2017 when I called to check on my appointment is when I discovered that he had dismissed me. With that being said, I do like Dr. Shanafelt but this rule of 1 time and out is messed up. I have referred others to Dr. Shanafelt one person being my own mother,He has put me on some medications that are about to run out, (no narcotics) and now is turning me away because of 1 appointment I didn't remember.
This is not how patients should be treated. Turning away patients that are in need of his professional care and advice is unheard of, especially when I pay in full at every visit and I've never missed an appointment in the past Not only will he not treat me, I was told by Dr. Shanafelt's staff that I'm not able to be treated by any other of his colleagues or anyone affiliated with the Unity network, this has been a very upsetting and dissatisfing experience and I thought I would like to share with everyone.
