First Merit is ok, until you have to deal with their customer service on the phone. THEY ARE HORRIBLE! If you like to use your debit card to travel, beware. You call them in advance as to the states your visiting, and they record them , but it does no good. I have had my card blocked no less than 10 times in the last year while traveling. I have been blocked at Inns, restaurants, gas stations, professional sporting events. The list goes on. When you call their customers service, you get the suspected fraud reply. Really? They also tell you they have no record of you reporting your travel plans. On a recent vacation, I called twice, but they have no record??? This is hassle, not only that I have to call and put a delay on my travel, but also the embarrassment of having your card declined at a vendor. This is no way to treat a 20 year bank customer. Their so called security people have no clue. Bring on PNC.
